Evangelism and Apologetics

Rev. Richard Aasman

I. Apologetics

The branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines.

  1. What we are up against
Many have wandered from the faith because of questions about suffering and how God could allow such things to happen.

II. Get it straight yourself

We will discuss the following in order to have a good biblical understanding of the very kinds of things that will be discussed during evangelism:

  1. Sin, suffering and death
  2. Suffering in the light of Christ
  3. Death and hell

III. Apologetic approach to evangelism

We will look at a number of scenarios that present themselves during evangelism:

  1. God does not care
  2. Mockery of morals
  3. Defenders of evolutionism
  4. Claim of atheism
  5. Need for church
  6. Election and reprobation(and hell)

IV Some concluding remarks

In some concluding remarks we will note what our attitude should be in evangelism and that ultimately it is the Holy Spirit who either brings a person to salvation or drives a person away.

Rev. Aasman is pastor of Providence Canadian Reformed Church in Edmonton.
