David Defeats the Ammonites and Arameans
1Ch 19:1-19
1 After this, the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son
reigned in his stead.
2 (1Sa 11:1) David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash,
as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent a message by way
of his servants to comfort him concerning his father, and the servants
of David went to the land of the Ammonites.
3 (Ge 42:9; 42:16) But the Ammonite officials said to Hanun, their lord,
"Has David honored your father in your eyes by sending comforters to you?
Was it not in an effort to search out the city, to scout it in order
to overthrow it, that he sent his servants to you?"
4 (Isa 20:4; 15:2) So Hanun seized the servants of David, shaved half
of the beard of each, cut their robes in half so that they were exposed,
and sent them away.
5 When they reported what had happened to David, he sent messengers
to meet them, because the men were severely ashamed.
The king instructed them, "Remain at Jericho until your beards
have regrown, then return."
6 (2Sa 8:3; 8:5) When the Ammonites saw that they had become odious to David,
the Ammonites sent and hired the Arameans of Beth Rehob and the Arameans
of Zobah, 20000 foot soldiers, and from the king of Maakah, 1000 men,
and from Tob, 12000 men.
7 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army with the warriors.
8 (2Sa 10:6) The Ammonites came out and drew up in battle formation
at the entrance of the gate. But the Arameans of Zobah, Rehob, Tob, a
nd Maakah were by themselves in the open field.
9 When Joab saw that the battlefronts were both before and behind him,
he selected some from the best men in Israel and lined them up opposite Aram.
10 The remainder of the people he placed under the charge of Abishai
his brother, and lined them up opposite the Ammonites.
11 Then he said, "If Aram starts to prevail over me, you shall help me,
but if the Ammonites begin to prevail over you, then I will come to help you.
12 (Dt 31:6; 1Sa 3:18) Be strong and let us fight with resolve
for the sake of our people and the cities of our God.
May the Lord do what seems good to Him."
13 (1Ki 20:13-21) Joab advanced the people that were with him to fight
against Aram, and they retreated from before him.
14 When the Ammonites realized that Aram had fled, they retreated
from before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab turned away
from fighting against the Ammonites, and he came to Jerusalem.
15 When Aram saw that they had been defeated by Israel,
they assembled together.
161 (Ch 19:16; 2Sa 8:3-8) Hadadezer sent for and summoned the Arameans
who were beyond the River,Euphrates River. and they came to Helam.
Shobak the commander of the army of Hadadezer led them.
17 When David was informed of this, he assembled all of Israel.
They crossed over the Jordan and came to Helam. Aram was drawn up
in formation opposite David, and they fought against him.
18 (1Ch 19:18) Aram retreated before Israel. David killed 700 charioteers,
40000 horsemen from Aram, and wounded Shobak the commander
of the army so that he died there.
19 (2Sa 8:6) When all of the kings who were subject to Hadadezer
realized that they were being defeated by Israel,
they made peace with Israel and became subject to them.
From then on, Aram was fearful of further helping the Ammonites.

[1] And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon
died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
[2] Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as
his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the
hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land
of the children of Ammon.
[3] And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord,
Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent
comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to
search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
[4] Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of
their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their
buttocks, and sent them away.
[5] When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were
greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be
grown, and then return.
[6] And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the
children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians
of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of
Ish-tob twelve thousand men.
[7] And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty
men.
[8] And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the
entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish-tob,
and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
[9] When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and
behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array
against the Syrians:
[10] And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his
brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
[11] And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help
me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come
and help thee.
[12] Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the
cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
[13] And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle
against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
[14] And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then
fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned
from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
[15] And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they
gathered themselves together.
[16] And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the
river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of
Hadarezer went before them.
[17] And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed
over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array
against David, and fought with him.
[18] And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven
hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote
Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
[19] And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they
were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So
the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.

died, and his son reigned in his place.
2 Then David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash,
because his father showed kindness to me." So David sent messengers
to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came
to Hanun in the land of the Ammonites to comfort him.
3 But the leaders of the Ammonites said to Hanun,
"Do you think that David is honoring your father because he sent consolers?
Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow
and to spy out the land?"
4 So Hanun took the servants of David, shaved them, cut their garments
in half as far as the hip, and sent them away.
5 Then some came and told David about the men, so he sent to meet them,
for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said,
"Remain in Jericho until your beards grow full, and then return."
6 (Ge 34:30; 2Sa 10:6) When the Ammonites saw that they had become a stench
to David, Hanun and the Ammonites sent one thousand talents
[About 38 tons, or 34 metric tons.] of silver to hire chariots and horsemen
from Aram Naharaim, Aram Maakah, and Zobah.
7 (Nu 21:30; Jos 13:9) So they hired for themselves t32000 chariots,
with the king of Maakah and his people. They camped before Medeba
as the Ammonites gathered from their cities to go out to war.
8When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.
9 So the Ammonites went out and formed ranks for battle at the entrance
to the city while the kings who had come were
by themselves in the open country.
10 When Joab saw the battle line was drawn in front of him and behind him,
he chose some of the best men in Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.
11 (1Ch 18:12) The rest of the people he placed in the charge
of his brother Abishai, and they took up positions to engage the Ammonites.
12 Then he said, "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you will come
help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will come help you.
13 Take courage, and let us prove worthy of our people
and the cities of our God. May the Lord do what seems right to Him."
14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the Arameans
for battle, and they fled before him.
15 When the Ammonites saw the Arameans fleeing, they also fled before
Abishai his brother and entered the city. So Joab returned to Jerusalem.
16 (2Sa 10:1) 6When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel,
they sent messengers and summoned the Arameans who were beyond '
he River,Euphrates River. and Shophak, the commander of Hadadezer's
army went before them.
17 When David was told about it, he gathered all Israel, crossed
over the Jordan, and came against them. He divided his ranks
and prepared to engage the Arameans in battle, so they fought against him.
18 (2 Sa 10:18) But the Arameans fled before Israel,
and David killed 7000 chariot drivers and 40000 infantry men of the Arameans,
and killed Shophak, the commander of the army.
19 And when the servants of Hadadezer saw t
hat they were defeated before Israel,
they negotiated peace with David and served him.
So the Arameans were not willing to aid the Ammonites in battle again.

of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba.
And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities,
and came to battle.
8 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty
men.
9 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before
the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves
in the field.
10 Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind,
he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against
the Syrians.
11 And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai
his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
12 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me:
but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
13 Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people,
and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good
in his sight.
14 So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians
unto the battle; and they fled before him.
15 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled,
they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city.
Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel,
they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river:
and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
17 And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan,
and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David
had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
18 But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians
seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen,
and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
19 And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse
before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants:
neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
PSALMS 20

1 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble;
may the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) may He send you help from the sanctuary,
and strengthen you from Zion;

The Appearance of Jesus to Mary Magdalene
Mk 16:9-11
11 But Mary stood outside at the tomb weeping. As she wept,
she stooped down and looked into the tomb,
12 and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus
had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.
13 (Jn 20:15; 2:4) They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord,
and I do not know where they have put Him."
14 (Mt 28:9; Mk 16:9) When she had said this, she turned around
and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus.
15 (Jn 1:38; 18:4) Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you seeking?"
Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him,
"Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have put Him,
and I will take Him away."

[17] Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my
Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father,
and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
[18] Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord,
and that he had spoken these things unto her.
In the classic sports fantasy film Field of Dreams, the character Ray Kinsella
encounters his late father as an athletic younger man. Upon seeing him for
the first time, Ray comments to his wife, Annie, "I only saw him years later
when he was worn down by life. Look at him. . . . What do I say to him?"
The scene raises a question: What would it be like to see someone we have
loved - but now has died - vital and strong again?
Mary Magdalene had that experience when she first met Jesus after He rose
from the dead. Mary was weeping beside the empty tomb when she turned
"and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realise that it was Jesus"
(John 20:14). Why didn't she recognise Him? Perhaps because of the tears
in her eyes or because it "was still dark" (v. 1). More likely, it was
because when she last saw Him, He'd been bloodied and beaten and tortured
to death. She never expected to see Him alive again; He was so alive that
it took time for the magnificent truth to sink in.
Yet there Jesus stood, "raised imperishable" (1 Corinthians 15:42)!
And the moment He called her by name, Mary recognised Him, not only
as her faithful friend and "Teacher" (John 20:16), but also as the risen
Lord of life. God always has ways of astounding us with His wonders.
His conquering death for us is the greatest surprise of all.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 6 Reconciliation
2 Cor 5:18-19
18 All this is from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ
and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation,
19 that is, that God was
in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their sins
against them, and has entrusted to us the message of reconciliation.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus
Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself,
not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us
the word of reconciliation.
When Paul writes in 2 Cor 5:17 that we become a "new creation" in Christ
Jesus, the story does not end there. The verses following give us direction
for tht new life in Christ. "All This", Paul says, referring to the miracle of
new life in Christ, "is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ
and gave us the ministry of reconciliation."
Reconciliation means to bring back together what was once separated. Man was
separated from God by sin, and God took the initiative to reconcile man to
himself. Our "ministry of reconciliation" as Christians is twofold: to draw
others to the Lord and to work for reconciliation between individuals.
Reconciliation is the ultimate goal of forgiveness. God, through his grace ,
extends forgiveness to us when we are still sinners, unrepentant,
undeserving. When we respond, we come into reconciliation with him
and are brought back into oneness. Likewise, when we extend the grace
of forgiveness to another, we are set free by the act of forgiving, but we
hope that the ultimate outcome will be reconciliation.
God shows us the pattern: he is the wronged party, yet he does not wait for
the offender to come to him, hat in hand. He takes a bold initiative, offering
forgiveness freely with out regard to merit. The pattern applies to us;
as the new life in Christ takes hold of us, we must reach out, and reach,
and keep on reaching, breaking down the barriers, taking the risk of
rejection so that we may come to reconciliation.

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:
- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

David Defeats the Ammonites and Arameans
1Ch 19:1-19
1 After this, the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son
reigned in his stead.
2 (1Sa 11:1) David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash,
as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent a message by way
of his servants to comfort him concerning his father, and the servants
of David went to the land of the Ammonites.
3 (Ge 42:9; 42:16) But the Ammonite officials said to Hanun, their lord,
"Has David honored your father in your eyes by sending comforters to you?
Was it not in an effort to search out the city, to scout it in order
to overthrow it, that he sent his servants to you?"
4 (Isa 20:4; 15:2) So Hanun seized the servants of David, shaved half
of the beard of each, cut their robes in half so that they were exposed,
and sent them away.
5 When they reported what had happened to David, he sent messengers
to meet them, because the men were severely ashamed.
The king instructed them, "Remain at Jericho until your beards
have regrown, then return."
6 (2Sa 8:3; 8:5) When the Ammonites saw that they had become odious to David,
the Ammonites sent and hired the Arameans of Beth Rehob and the Arameans
of Zobah, 20000 foot soldiers, and from the king of Maakah, 1000 men,
and from Tob, 12000 men.
7 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army with the warriors.
8 (2Sa 10:6) The Ammonites came out and drew up in battle formation
at the entrance of the gate. But the Arameans of Zobah, Rehob, Tob, a
nd Maakah were by themselves in the open field.
9 When Joab saw that the battlefronts were both before and behind him,
he selected some from the best men in Israel and lined them up opposite Aram.
10 The remainder of the people he placed under the charge of Abishai
his brother, and lined them up opposite the Ammonites.
11 Then he said, "If Aram starts to prevail over me, you shall help me,
but if the Ammonites begin to prevail over you, then I will come to help you.
12 (Dt 31:6; 1Sa 3:18) Be strong and let us fight with resolve
for the sake of our people and the cities of our God.
May the Lord do what seems good to Him."
13 (1Ki 20:13-21) Joab advanced the people that were with him to fight
against Aram, and they retreated from before him.
14 When the Ammonites realized that Aram had fled, they retreated
from before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab turned away
from fighting against the Ammonites, and he came to Jerusalem.
15 When Aram saw that they had been defeated by Israel,
they assembled together.
161 (Ch 19:16; 2Sa 8:3-8) Hadadezer sent for and summoned the Arameans
who were beyond the River,Euphrates River. and they came to Helam.
Shobak the commander of the army of Hadadezer led them.
17 When David was informed of this, he assembled all of Israel.
They crossed over the Jordan and came to Helam. Aram was drawn up
in formation opposite David, and they fought against him.
18 (1Ch 19:18) Aram retreated before Israel. David killed 700 charioteers,
40000 horsemen from Aram, and wounded Shobak the commander
of the army so that he died there.
19 (2Sa 8:6) When all of the kings who were subject to Hadadezer
realized that they were being defeated by Israel,
they made peace with Israel and became subject to them.
From then on, Aram was fearful of further helping the Ammonites.

[1] And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon
died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
[2] Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as
his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the
hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land
of the children of Ammon.
[3] And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord,
Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent
comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to
search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
[4] Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of
their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their
buttocks, and sent them away.
[5] When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were
greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be
grown, and then return.
[6] And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the
children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians
of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of
Ish-tob twelve thousand men.
[7] And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty
men.
[8] And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the
entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish-tob,

[9] When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and
behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array
against the Syrians:
[10] And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his
brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
[11] And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help
me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come
and help thee.
[12] Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the
cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.

against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
[14] And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then
fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned

gathered themselves together.

to David, Hanun and the Ammonites sent one thousand talents
[About 38 tons, or 34 metric tons.] of silver to hire chariots and horsemen

7 (Nu 21:30; Jos 13:9) So they hired for themselves t32000 chariots,
with the king of Maakah and his people. They camped before Medeba
as the Ammonites gathered from their cities to go out to war.
8When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.
9 So the Ammonites went out and formed ranks for battle at the entrance
to the city while the kings who had come were
by themselves in the open country.
10 When Joab saw the battle line was drawn in front of him and behind him,
he chose some of the best men in Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.
11 (1Ch 18:12) The rest of the people he placed in the charge
of his brother Abishai, and they took up positions to engage the Ammonites.
12 Then he said, "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you will come
help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will come help you.
13 Take courage, and let us prove worthy of our people
and the cities of our God. May the Lord do what seems right to Him."
14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the Arameans
for battle, and they fled before him.
15 When the Ammonites saw the Arameans fleeing, they also fled before
Abishai his brother and entered the city. So Joab returned to Jerusalem.

they sent messengers and summoned the Arameans who were beyond '
he River,Euphrates River. and Shophak, the commander of Hadadezer's
army went before them.

and prepared to engage the Arameans in battle, so they fought against him.
18 (2 Sa 10:18) But the Arameans fled before Israel,
and David killed 7000 chariot drivers and 40000 infantry men of the Arameans,
and killed Shophak, the commander of the army.
19 And when the servants of Hadadezer saw t
hat they were defeated before Israel,
they negotiated peace with David and served him.
So the Arameans were not willing to aid the Ammonites in battle again.

11 But Mary stood outside at the tomb weeping. As she wept,

12 and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus
had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.
13 (Jn 20:15; 2:4) They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord,
and I do not know where they have put Him."
14 (Mt 28:9; Mk 16:9) When she had said this, she turned around
and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus.

Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him,

[18] Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord,
and that he had spoken these things unto her.
In the classic sports fantasy film Field of Dreams, the character Ray Kinsella
encounters his late father as an athletic younger man. Upon seeing him for
the first time, Ray comments to his wife, Annie, "I only saw him years later
when he was worn down by life. Look at him. . . . What do I say to him?"
The scene raises a question: What would it be like to see someone we have
loved - but now has died - vital and strong again?
Mary Magdalene had that experience when she first met Jesus after He rose
from the dead. Mary was weeping beside the empty tomb when she turned
"and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realise that it was Jesus"
(John 20:14). Why didn't she recognise Him? Perhaps because of the tears
in her eyes or because it "was still dark" (v. 1). More likely, it was
because when she last saw Him, He'd been bloodied and beaten and tortured
to death. She never expected to see Him alive again; He was so alive that
it took time for the magnificent truth to sink in.
Yet there Jesus stood, "raised imperishable" (1 Corinthians 15:42)!
And the moment He called her by name, Mary recognised Him, not only
as her faithful friend and "Teacher" (John 20:16), but also as the risen
Lord of life. God always has ways of astounding us with His wonders.
His conquering death for us is the greatest surprise of all.

2 Cor 5:18-19
18 All this is from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ
and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation,
19 that is, that God was
in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their sins
against them, and has entrusted to us the message of reconciliation.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus
Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself,
not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us
the word of reconciliation.
When Paul writes in 2 Cor 5:17 that we become a "new creation" in Christ
Jesus, the story does not end there. The verses following give us direction
for tht new life in Christ. "All This", Paul says, referring to the miracle of
new life in Christ, "is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ
and gave us the ministry of reconciliation."
Reconciliation means to bring back together what was once separated. Man was
separated from God by sin, and God took the initiative to reconcile man to
himself. Our "ministry of reconciliation" as Christians is twofold: to draw
others to the Lord and to work for reconciliation between individuals.
Reconciliation is the ultimate goal of forgiveness. God, through his grace ,
extends forgiveness to us when we are still sinners, unrepentant,
undeserving. When we respond, we come into reconciliation with him
and are brought back into oneness. Likewise, when we extend the grace
of forgiveness to another, we are set free by the act of forgiving, but we
hope that the ultimate outcome will be reconciliation.
God shows us the pattern: he is the wronged party, yet he does not wait for
the offender to come to him, hat in hand. He takes a bold initiative, offering
forgiveness freely with out regard to merit. The pattern applies to us;
as the new life in Christ takes hold of us, we must reach out, and reach,
and keep on reaching, breaking down the barriers, taking the risk of
rejection so that we may come to reconciliation.

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.

- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
