With Email Remover, you can delete all the unwanted email messages before you download them entirely. It checks your email account and retrieves only the headers plus the first few lines to help you decide which messages are worth being kept and downloaded with your regular email program -- and which are not. The latter are instantly deleted.

I've used this program for quite awhile and highly recommend it.
